The Association of Professional Researchers for Advancement, Michigan Chapter (APRA, Michigan) is a private, nonprofit organization dedicated to promoting educational and professional development opportunities in the field of fund-raising research and information management. Currently, more than 45 non-profit organizations in and around the State of Michigan are represented through membership. APRA, Michigan is formally affiliated with APRA International (www.aprahome.org), the premier international professional association for philanthropic research.

What Are the Benefits of Becoming an APRA, Michigan Member?

APRA, Michigan provides a number of educational and professional development opportunities each year as well as a website that provides up-to-the-minute information regarding APRA, Michigan conferences, announcements and job opportunities throughout the State of Michigan.

Additional benefits to APRA, Michigan members include:

  • Annual spring conferences featuring well known and qualified research and fund-raising professionals from across the country presenting topics for research techniques and tools to prospect management and solicitation strategies. APRA, Michigan Members attend for discounted prices!
  • One annual fall and spring conferences also featuring topics on issues relevant to research and fund-raising. Conferences are held on each side of the state to allow for less time away from the office and time on the road. APRA, Michigan Members attend for discounted prices!
  • Networking opportunities for newcomers to the field of research as well as those who are more advanced.
  • An APRA, Michigan Membership Directory and Resource Guide, only available to APRA, Michigan members in good-standing, which lists all members and their contact information along with a listing of members considered to be experts in selected areas of research and development.
  • An online newsletter published three times annually that keeps members up-to-date on chapter information and upcoming meetings and job opportunities.
  • Attendance discounts at other organizational conferences co-sponsored by APRA, Michigan.

How Do I Become a Member of APRA, Michigan?

APRA, Michigan membership is open to anyone seeking to foster a positive association with the fund-raising community and whose affiliation is not contrary to the goals of APRA, Michigan. Members shall uphold the responsibilities and integrity of APRA, Michigan without conflict of interest. You need not be a member of APRA International to become an APRA, Michigan member.

What are the Different Types of Memberships Available?

There are two types of memberships available:

Individual - belongs to the individual and may not be transferred.

Institutional - belongs to the institution but is assigned to a specific individual at that institution. The institution may change the designated member only when the original designee leaves or is reassigned or at the time the institutional membership is renewed. Written documentation is required for any membership changes.

How Much Does it Cost to Become an APRA, Michigan Member?

APRA, Michigan membership dues are $35, paid annual and covering the term from January 1st through December 31st of each year.

Who Represents APRA, Michigan?

APRA, Michigan is governed by an elected board of directors comprised of seven volunteers. These volunteers have been APRA, Michigan members for at least one year and have worked in the advancement/development field for two or more years. The Board is comprised of a President, Vice President, Secretary/Treasurer, Membership Director, Communications Director, Program Director and Member At-Large.

The APRA, Michigan Board of Directors meets at least three times annually and a summary of the board proceedings is posted in the member newsletter when published.

What Types of Organizations Make Up APRA, Michigan?

APRA, Michigan members are comprised of research and development professionals representing institutions of all types, including: higher education, healthcare, social and environmental organizations, arts and performance institutes, community foundations, etc.

Members include researchers, major gift officers, executive directors, organizational presidents and vice presidents, advancement services and donor relations professionals, as well as many others.
