MARC 2010 Location and Directions

Location:

MARC 2010 will take place on the campus of the University of Pennsylvania, in Philadelphia. Pre-conference workshops and conference sessions will be centered in Houston Hall on the east end of the campus. You can view and print the attached campus map .

Directions to the University of Pennsylvania:

Driving directions to the University of Pennsylvania campus are available from the school’s website at www.admissionsug.upenn.edu/visiting/directions.php . Note that the South Street Bridge near the campus is currently closed for construction.

TRAVEL/TRANSPORTATION

Travel to Philadelphia:
60% of the U.S. Population is 2 hours away from Philadelphia.

Most major airlines service Philadelphia’s airport, and the Amtrak 30th Street Station is just a few blocks from the campus. We advise you to make your travel arrangements as soon as possible since fares often increase as the time of travel draws near.

Transportation into and within Philadelphia:

Taxi: Taxi service is available from the airport with fares to the campus averaging $25‐$30 before tip. The drive from the airport to campus takes approximately 15‐20 minutes. For those who wish to rent a car for use during the Conference, rentals are available at the airport from all major car rental companies.

SEPTA: The Airport Express Train leaves 9 minutes after every half hour, and will take you to either the University City Station on Convention Ave or to 30th Street Station. The fare is approximately $7.00 and the ride takes 18 minutes to the University City Station (Taxis are not available at University Station.) SEPTA trains can also be used to get into downtown Philadelphia. For more information see www.septa.org or www.septa.org/maps/click_map.html for a rail system map.

Arriving by Amtrak or SEPTA trains via 30th Street Station:
Taxis are very available at 30th Street (Amtrak) Station.  A metered cab costs about $10.00 including tip and the ride takes about 5 minutes.

Shuttle Van:
Lady Liberty Shuttle provides shared van service from the airport for $10/person, and more information about their services can be found at www.ladylibertyshuttle.com.

Bus: 
The SEPTA No. 30 bus runs from the station to campus. The fare is $2.00 and exact change is required. The ride takes 8 minutes and stops at Civic Center Boulevard & University Avenue. Taxis are not available at University Station.

Driving to the Campus:

From the Northeast: 
Via the New Jersey Turnpike South Take the New Jersey Turnpike to exit 4 for Route 73 North. Bear right out of the toll following signs to Philadelphia and Ben Franklin Bridge. After crossing the bridge take I-676 West, to I-76 East, the Schuylkill Expressway. START DETOUR: Follow I-76 East to 30th Street Station Exit. Turn Right at the end of the exit ramp onto Arch Street. Follow Arch Street around and merge right onto John F Kennedy Blvd. Merge Right onto Market Street. Turn Left onto 34th Street to enter campus.

From the Northeast Extension, Pennsylvania Turnpike:
Take the Pennsylvania Turnpike Northeast Extension, South to the PA Turnpike, East-West Interchange. Remain on I-476 (The PA TP, northeast extension portion of I-476, terminates at the PA TP east-west interchange). Continue on I-476 south, approximately 3.6 miles to Exit 6, I-76 East (Schuylkill Expressway). START DETOUR: Turn Right at the end of the exit ramp onto Arch Street. Follow Arch Street around and merge right onto John F Kennedy Blvd. Merge Right onto Market Street. Turn Left onto 34th Street to enter campus.

From the Northwest:
Take the Pennsylvania Turnpike to Exit 24, Valley Forge Interchange. Take I-76 East (Schuylkill Expressway) approximately 17 miles. START DETOUR: Follow I-76 East to 30th Street Station Exit. Turn Right at the end of the exit ramp onto Arch Street. Follow Arch Street around and merge right onto John F Kennedy Blvd. Merge Right onto Market Street. Turn Left onto 34th Street to enter campus.

From the North:
Take I-95 South to I-676 Westbound toward Center City. From I-676 exit in less than two miles taking "exit only" ramp towards the airport marked I-76 East. START DETOUR: Turn Right at the end of the exit ramp onto Arch Street. Follow Arch Street around and merge right onto John F Kennedy Blvd. Merge Right onto Market Street. Turn Left onto 34th Street to enter campus.

From the South:
Take I-95 North to Exit 13 signed "291 West to I-76". Follow 291 West across (Platt) Bridge to 26th Street, which leads directly onto I-76 West. START DETOUR: Follow I-76 West to 30th Street Station Exit. Turn Left at the end of the exit ramp onto Market Street. Follow Market Street to 34th Street and turn left on 34th Street to enter campus.

PARKING

Parking in the Penn garages is approx $25 per day in either Lot 30 (on the Corner of 38th and Walnut) or Lot 40 (on the corner of 40th and Walnut).
