"Don't Tell Anyone!" Donor Privacy Issues and Trends
Track Rsrch Fundmtls Level Fundamental Year 2008
This presentation will cover:
- Professional ethical policies and information about institutional ethical guidelines. The APRA Ethics Statement, the CASE Statement of Ethics and the Nature Conservancy’s Web site Privacy Policy are a few of many policies referenced to assist in guiding best practice development.
- FERPA, FOIA, HIPAA, Gramm-Leach-Biley Act, Sunshine Laws — within this alphabet soup of acronyms, there are many legal constraints on constituent data that this session will translate.
- How to handle when a donor's personal data is used improperly. An example of this situation will be shared — including the surprising end to the story.
- The Ethical Crystal Ball — ideas on how to maintain privacy and ethical considerations with the high volume of data available.
As almost any activity in our profession can change quickly, reviewing and understanding how to continuously maintain confidential data about our donors is essential. This session will discuss current and future trends in ethical practices: How can we maintain donor privacy?
