Collective giving is not a new idea, but the formation of large collaboratives like Social Venture Partners and Blue Meridian Partners suggests that even donors at the top of the pyramid are looking to collective giving as a way to maximize the impact of their philanthropy. In this session, we will examine the history of collective giving, from its roots in small giving circles to the growth of large, well-organized networks of funders as well as ad hoc crowdfunding efforts. We will showcase some of the most prominent giving collectives working in a variety of nonprofit sectors and offer suggestions for engaging them as potential donors. In addition, we will discuss ways in which organizations of all sizes can offer opportunities for collaborative giving as a means of growing the donor base and increasing engagement. This session is appropriate for individuals at all levels of experience and is applicable to organizations across all sectors.
