335: Scaling Up Interest-Based Fundraising

Track: Relationship Management

Session Number: 335
Date: Fri, Jul 28th, 2017
Time: 3:45 PM - 4:30 PM

Description:

The University of Chicago is in a $4.5B comprehensive campaign. To attain our fundraising goals, the development team has worked to broaden discussions with prospects, and consider all potential philanthropic interests. Manual collection of interest information is slow and tedious, so the Prospect Research team worked with DonorSearch to acquire philanthropic giving information for over 37,000 top prospects. The team translated past philanthropic giving into interest tags, which can be used to prospect for university initiatives, trips, events, and more. The presenters will provide an in-depth discussion of the data they acquired, how they processed the data to best serve their needs, and how they are now using the translated data to scale up the interest-based prospecting work. With a relatively small initial financial investment, the team has dramatically influenced conversations about prospects, is able to identify prospects much more efficiently, and has been the engine behind a fundamental change in the way UChicago fundraises.
