DAS 8A: “Help! I need prospects on the Westside!”

Track: Data Analytics Symposium

Session Number: DAS 8A
Date: Thu, Jul 27th, 2017
Time: 1:15 PM - 2:00 PM

Description:

The presenter will cover the development of mapping features relevant to fundraising offices, all based on ZIP codes. This straightforward approach will demonstrate how standard desktop programs (e.g. Excel) and free versions of visualization tools (e.g. Tableau) can add depth to a fundraising operation’s effectiveness. Specific examples in California - the various regions of Los Angeles (including the Westside), Southern California, and the Bay Area - the presenter will show how simple segmentation can be used in the following applications:

-create standard definitions of regions/districts/neighborhoods for use across an organization;
-help staff new to the organization and city (and those who are geographically challenged) quickly understand the region(s) under their responsibility;
-develop or redistribute regionally-based fundraiser portfolios;
-plan events based on where constituents/patrons live/work;
-segment for a mailing
