After the 2016 election, the ACLU’s membership quadrupled to almost 2 million: the greatest outpouring of support in its 100-year history. In this intermediate-level session, we will use the ACLU as a case study to discuss how cause-based organizations can identify and engage their highest-priority donors and prospects after an influx of new support, or during times of institutional change. This overview will include lessons learned on best practices such as prospect identification approaches, creating a research menu, making research actionable, portfolio size, and gift officer relationships.
