Measuring Success: A Crash Course in Fundraising Dashboards Using Microsoft Power BI

Track: Data Science

Session Number: 2097

Description:

Goals and metrics have become a near-universal aspect of life for fundraising and prospect management professionals. Many of the dashboarding tools used to report on and visualize these activities can be cumbersome to use and prohibitively expensive, especially for shops with limited resources. Further, finding formulas to calculate specific metrics can often be time-consuming and tedious. At the University of Oklahoma, we discovered that Microsoft Power BI was superior to its competitors in its ease of use and cost-effectiveness. We have compiled an in-depth list of metrics formulas and calculations for all aspects of fundraising. This presentation will demonstrate the ease with which Microsoft Power BI can be scaled to and implemented in any size shop, and aims to establish an open-source list of metrics calculations to be shared with the wider APRA community.
