Description:

A law of performance often attributed to Karl Pearson is as follows: “When performance is measured, performance improves. When performance is measured and reported back, the rate of improvement accelerates.” As data analysts we are often charged with measuring gift officers in relation to a certain set of key performance indicators (KPI’s) in order to assess their effectiveness and to demonstrate ROI. But have we ever thought to assess ourselves to measure our own effectiveness and demonstrate our own ROI?

At the University of Texas at Austin we have developed a set of KPI’s to measure the performance and effectiveness of our individual analysts and to collectively demonstrate our ROI to the rest of the university development community. These KPI’s include productivity metrics derived from our project management tool, and customer satisfaction metrics gathered from stakeholder feedback on individual analysts. These individual KPI’s are then brought together and published in a scorecard-style dashboard for each analyst.

This presentation will review the KPI selection process, discuss the tools and platforms used to gather our own productivity data, and review some of the lessons learned and future work planned for the project, all while demonstrating how an analyst scorecard can be created using Tableau.
