Do you sometimes find it challenging to explain to others what it is you do? Or, have you ever felt like you were being asked to create your job as you go? Using Apra tools and resources, attendees will work on defining their role in research and get to know their NRS colleagues through a large group exercise.

10:30 a.m. - 11:15 a.m. Prospect Identification
Who are your best prospects for x? How about y? After a short review of prospect ID methods and techniques, participants will work in small groups to identify top prospects for assigned scenarios using a provided data set.
11:15 a.m. - 12:00 p.m. Portfolio Management
You’ve got great prospects, what do you do next? How can you help ensure the best prospects are being visited and qualified by fundraisers? What are the best methods for conducting portfolio review meetings? What are signs that a portfolio needs help? In this lecture-based session, NRS faculty will share best practices for portfolio management and round out the morning by answering your toughest questions related to prospect identification and portfolios.

Explore tried and true techniques for prioritizing research requests, establishing standard deliverables, and orienting fundraisers to what research is…and what it is not. You work smarter, everybody wins!

The world of prospect research contains unique privacy, ethical, and security challenges that we all must navigate. Through small group discussion, participants will explore regulations, considerations, and best-case scenarios for the responsible use of data for fundraising.
2:30 p.m. - 2:45 p.m. Break
2:45 p.m. - 4:15 p.m. Creating Research Profiles
Knowing what information you can find and where to look is just the beginning. In this large group exercise, we will ALL work together as a team to find available information and distill it in profile format. Watch out, there may be twists and turns along the way!
