Are portfolios are a thing of the past? By rethinking traditional methods, you can take your fundraising efforts to the next level and forecast out several years. After determining that on average 36% of the prospects in portfolios at Utah State University had never been contacted it was determined that portfolios were blocking conversations with top prospects rather than encouraging them. Furthermore, portfolios and prospect stages made it difficult to forecast fundraising production and set goals. All portfolios were then dissolved. Our focus changed to proposals, contact guidelines, and principal gift donor strategy meetings to manage prospect coordination. Now everyone has a place at the table during strategy sessions for top donors, active engagement of top prospects, accountability to complete tasks, and effective goal setting.
