Charge and responsibilities:
In accordance with established bylaws, policies, and procedures, the Fundamentals Committee develops and represents a high-quality Prospect Development curriculum in four core areas: Campaigns, Prospect Research, Prospect Management and Data Science. This curriculum is designed to engage new and mid-career professionals. The Committee’s strategies and tactics may vary year-by-year as directed by the Board of Directors, in consideration of the Apra Strategic Plan.

Committee accomplishments and activities:
Over the past 7 offerings of Fundamentals, participants have consistently given the program high marks for overall quality, learning materials, live webinar and in-person experiences, and value for professional growth. Materials are regularly assessed and refreshed to ensure relevant content is available, with special attention to ethics, DEIBJA and data science.
Term of Service:
Members of the Fundamentals Committee will preferably commit to three Apra Fundamentals activities. The Chair of the Fundamentals Committee will typically serve or further advise on two additional Apra Fundamentals activities for continuity purposes. Typically, three Apra Fundamentals activities require a year and a half commitment.
The Apra Fundamentals program focuses on the four key areas of prospect development: Campaigns, Prospect Research, Prospect Management, and Data Science. The three-day virtual event is geared for fundraising professionals new to prospect development who wish to fast-track their capabilities and skill set. Each event cycle covers a different area of the four key areas of prospect development.
Each day of Apra Fundamentals consists of 1.5 hours of learning from with an optional Q&A session. The virtual learning involves high interaction with other attendees and expert faculty members. Attendees work in groups on projects, networking with peers, and asking questions to faculty members.
In the weeks leading up to the event, registrants will be given access to an online community to network with fellow attendees, download resource material, and communicate with faculty experts.
The online learning before the event—consisting of about four hours’ worth of module training and access to a community of experts—is mandatory. It is designed to prepare attendees for the event education.
Time Committment:
The Fundamentals Committee typically meets for approximately one hour on a monthly basis, via telephone conference calls or video conference calls and may meet more frequently, as needed.
Chair, Board Liaison, and all Fundamentals Committee members are required to attend and/or present during Apra Fundamentals event.
